The Charm of a Farmhouse Roof...

When we first moved to our little farmstead, over three years ago, the home inspector told us we'd need a new roof in a few years. Turns out he wasn't kidding.

We're looking at metal vs. shingle, price, warrantee, and color. I love the look of metal roofs. I've read that they're incredibly durable and will far out-last shingle roofs. But, the upfront cost is - in roof terminology - "steep."

The picture below shows our house before the winter moss of 2017 came to visit. You can see that we currently have a gray shingled roof. The green metal roof in the background is our barn. The original homeowners were horse enthusiasts, and had the barn built before the house. They also selected a higher grade roof (metal) for the barn, than the house.

So now, as we're considering a new roof, I'm pouring over pictures, paying close attention to farmhouse roofs. In the process, I've come across some stunning farmhouses. I thought you might like to see them. One thing they all have in common? Charming roofs. Some, full of character. Others, beautifully simple...
